Return Mission Southern Leyte January 8, 2022

The Sisters Servants of the Visitation Mission Aid Bato completed their return Mission to provide typhoon aid to the communities in Southern Leyte effected by Super Typhoon Odette. The Guardians of the Visitation sent a typhoon relief funds at the request of Sr. Rubi to fund the purchase of cooking utensils, plates, cups, eating utensils, towels, soap, toothbrushes, tarps, food, and many basic items to give relief to the people and families. Also Dom Bosco and Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament as well as friend of SSV, Sr. Jennelyn and Sr. Rubi provided additional funds to support the relief effort.

The items were packed by the SSV Sisters and with help from members of the Our Lady of the Visitation Youth Organization (OLVYO). On January 6th the shipping truck came with a timely delivery of ten Balikbayan Boxes from the Guardians of the Visitation in the US!. The shipment included six boxes of summer clothes packed by the sixth grade girls volleyball team of St. Petronille Elementary School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. The clothing items came just in time to be brought to the victims of Typhoon Odette.

The OLVYO volunteers and SSV Sisters got to work to sort and organize the clothing into family needs providing a variety of clothes for men, women, and children in each bag. This was an unexpected grace from God to have the donation of the Summer clothes to arrive just in time to be of immediate use in typhoon relief. God Knows, God Sees, God Sends! All Thanks be to God for the generosity of the families of St. Petronille School who are now missioners through SSV to accompany our brothers and sisters in need.

The SSV vans were loaded late at night by the OLVYO for an early morning departure to Southern Leyte. After eight hours traveling, Sr. Rubi, with Sr. Sophiana, Sr Agnes, and SSV Social Worker Rowena Nationalas-Monroy first visited a Brgy. San Juan by the sea on their way to Himbangan High School campus in St. Bernard, Southern Leyte to meet three hundred families with aid. The SSV Sisters were very thankful to the Barangay volunteers and leaders for organizing fun activities and music to bring smiles and help ease the anxieties of stress causes by the catastrophe. Sr. Rubi praises grace of Our Mother of the Visitation for guiding the van drivers to ensure their safe travel and completing their mission successfully. Let us continue to accompany the victims of Typhoon Odette in our prayer.
